March 14, 2010 Happy Pi Day!

brennan woke up coughing (or trying to, at least) at about 3:30am. he couldn't breathe. we were so worried, because he was 'fine' the night before, and this came on suddenly. i put some baby vicks vapor rub on his chest, hoping to loosen whatever was bothering him, but no go. he didn't have a fever -- which i had been expecting. he was moaning and crying and unable to breathe, so we decided to take him to the er.
apparently it's croup. his upper airways are inflamed. breathing in cool air, or steam from a hot shower, or using a cool-air humidifier should help. i'm pretty sure he's had this before, because he's had that 'seal-like' cough before, but with a fever. he's never seem so bad that we feared he wasn't able to breathe at all, but i guess that's all part of it.
he was better once we got to the er (which is what the nurse and doctor both said typically happens), but still coughing some.


brennan ended up getting a steroid shot in his thigh...he wasn't very happy...
but he did fall asleep in the car, and slept at home for a couple of hours.

he's back to eating everything and anything, all the time.
gosh, doesn't the pantry look like a mess?! yikes.
