since the boys are getting bigger, this time we are trying a bigger pool.  unfortunately we don't have as much space as i'd like, but we got the 10' above ground pool to try out.

picked up my new reading glasses. whee.  at least they look nice.

 then a few minutes later, we found out that sr. celedon chose matthew as his medallion winner as well!  what a wonderful surprise!!!
[each teacher gets to select one student per class to honor, and then out of those, the teacher gets to select one who will also receive the medallion.]
this was AMAZING!  sr. celedon teaches two Spanish I classes, one Spanish II (for native speakers) and two Spanish III honors classes.  and he chose MATTHEW!!!
i'm so proud!!!

while at the dentist, i finally finished and got to 4096. i had to really try after getting the first 2048...

 brennan got TWO first place ribbons!
it was interesting because dashiell got his ribbons last week, and brennan was sad that he didn't get any
(saying "i'm never going to get any") and here he shows up with not one, but TWO first place ribbons!

laguna hills half marathon with andrew

it was a nice, smallish race.  but it started to get pretty warm around mile 10

so i saw in a magazine an upside-down braided bun, so i decided to try it out.

this was my second attempt (and more than a dozen pictures later...because i took it myself)

the first time i didn't braid it inside out and quit braiding too soon. it didn't look very good.

this one seems much better, but it makes all my grey pop out!  boo.

maybe i'll try to do it again tomorrow...if i get up early enough.  tires my arms out to flip my head over and braid.  =p

 the boys and derek got lemons off the tree so that i could get to juicing today.
some were GINORMOUS! and then some were crazy-lumpy, like it had a skin condition! =p

derek and i enjoyed a late night out at the movies -- we went to go see godzilla in 3d.
we got home after midnight, and this is how i found dashiell in matt's bed.
he always wants to stay up late to read, and i promised him all week that he could do so on a friday night, because there's no school the following day.  on thursday night, when i told him the next night was friday, he didn't believe that i'd actually allow him to stay up as late as he wanted to read...
so i made sure before we left for the movies that he knew he could stay up to read.  he was so excited about this~
later, mom told me he probably went to bed around 11pm.  do you see the pile of books next to him?!

i woke him up around 8:30am, and he seem to be quite pleased that he was able to stay up late reading.  he was eager to tell me which books he had been reading.

playoff game tonight for our inaugural softball team, caught looking.

 after our tough loss to the 1st place team...but only by 3 runs!  it was 10-13.
we played MUCH better than our first time out, which was a 37-10 loss (or something ridiculous like that).  they were a team full of "real" baseball and softball players (a couple of whom were recognized as former baseball players of some of our teachers) =/

i didn't tell him about it, because i didn't know if he'd even be getting one.
so happy.  i wonder which teacher nominated him....  =D

went to the doc yesterday...starting prednisone today for 6 days.

(the following is from one of my imessages to a friend about it...)

Pinched nerve...Sciatica. I have a 6-day dose of prednisone (a steroid pill) to help with the inflammation.  If not better, call doc to go back for MRI and possible consideration of steroid injection.  
Apparently have lost a particular reflex (you know when they knock your knee or whatever to check reflexes?)--it's the one where they tap the back, by your Achilles heel--for is supposed to move down. Mine left foot doesn't.  (Right foot does) 
What I didn't know is that the reflex thing--was already noted previously.  I didn't know... said it's a typical result of a pinched nerve. Noted back in 2008 I think--so in a way makes me feel better that it's not simply just a result of my running this past year or so--because in 2008 I didn't run all that much...

 took matt to the dentist (after my eye appt) and saw the belly bombz truck outside

 while waiting at the library to renew the boys' passports, they got a word search to do.

printed out dashiell's game board cards...

 holy smokes.  this was the weather as i headed out to the club advisors luncheon in the gym (where it was not exactly cool)  i wanted to eat in my classroom, which was a nice, cold icebox.

 afterschool, i headed out to la mirada hs, for the jv team's last game of the season.
what a way to end it with the hottest day of the year (so far)
matt was DH again, and was able to get jaramillo (seen at 3rd) to score a run for our only run of the game.  he initially had a beautiful hit down the first base line, but unfortunately it was a couple of feet on the wrong side of the line.  this ended up as a nice solid drive into left field, allowing #7 to score.  matt was the 3rd batter, and the 3rd hit of the inning.  unfortunately there weren't more innings like this one.  =(
