today was the malibu creek state park 22k (just 1k more than a 1/2 marathon)
this course runs through the bulldog trail (which is the highlight of the bulldog 50k, in august; the route is run twice) which features not only breathtaking views, but a very challenging uphill course from miles 2-6+!
up rocky, technical terrain...more uphill...
lots of rocky trails...
somewhere around mile 11, i tripped and fell.
yup. my first fall. it wasn't too bad, i suppose.
when i flew forward, i was actually conscious about not skidding on my face, so i leaned my left shoulder into the ground (thank goodness i chose to wear a short sleeved shirt and not a tank top, as i usually do!) my shoulder was spared, for the most part (minor abrasions) because of my sleeve and my OM pockets on the shoulder. i must've clenched my left hand, because two of my fingernails dug into my palm. had a scratch there, too. my right wrist hurt (no scratches, really) because i think i must've tried to break the fall using it. also, the area under my left armpit hurt for well over a week.
thankfully pascale had some antiseptic wipes and small bandaids. i poured water over the wound and bandaid-ed it up and made it to the emts at mile 12.
back at home...
my calf sleeves helped protect my leg, too. you can see all the dirt on it from sliding across the ground. O.o
most of the damage
later that afternoon brennan still wanted to get in his 1mile run. i was pooped and so was he.
