after my 13mi run this morning, i figured it was time to take the kids out somewhere (to get them exhausted!) =p

so we went to pretend city. we hadn't been there since summer, and although we missed the first hour for member's only, it wasn't a very busy day today, which was totally nice!

storytime was pirate-themed today...

the boys actually got along pretty well for the most part
fueled in part by the fact that they hadn't played here together in a while
dashiell went back to wanting to be a police officer and even had the hat/cap on for a while.
he made friends with another little boy, chase, who he played with for quite some time too.

had my last 20miler this morning by the bolsa chica/huntington beach path today.

i was solo because pascale didn't have time to run that far or long and lily's foot/heel was bothering her.

so off i went all by myself this morning.

it actually went better than i had expected. i had only two miles (mile #2 and #3) where i ran over my intended max pace (which was 10:45 min/mile). just warming up, i guess.

i did a pretty good job up until the last two miles, which were tough. but i ran them much better than i felt (which was T.I.R.E.D.)

i kept thinking in my head that if i could just add on another 6 miles for the marathon, i'd be in good shape for finishing under 4:30, which is my goal. i clocked in at 3:25:55 -- which leaves me with 1:05:05 for 6 miles even. not 100% sure how those last 6 miles would've felt (tough, i'm sure) but with it being race day, i'd hope that i could muster up some race day adrenaline. i hope.

the race will start around the same time i started today, so that's a plus. let's hope it's not too much warmer.

got awoken at 4am by the house alarm beeping because we lost power.

i started to go back to sleep until i realized that i should check on socaledison when the power is coming back up (or no alarm is going to wake me up...) plus it's usually still dark when i get up. -_-

i have this app on my phone (from the last time we lost power) and there were no reported outages in cerritos...so i reported it as starting at just before 4am...

then later, because i requested to get text messages on the update of the trouble ticket i created, i get the message below.

i start to freak out because it says most will be up by 8:30, which is after the school day begins!

when derek left to go to the gym before 5am, i had him call me to tell me what it looked like out by school and the sheriff's station. school was dark, no street lights working, sheriff's station seemed to be on emergency power generators, and there was a crew working at the intersection by school.

i ended up texting our principal to let her know.

luckily by the time i was ready to go to work power at school was restored, and i doubt too many students and teachers who don't live here even realized it.

what was weird was that i didn't get the "resolved" trouble ticket until AFTER the school day was over and i was walking home...

another tough loss for the frosh/soph dons...

BUT on the upside, we did score another touchdown.

but only one...norwalk had seven?

and then our QB sat out the rest of te game after he took a hard hit

woke up matt this morning and decided to see how tall he is now...

and lo and behold. he is taller than me now.

WOW.

well, i guess he can just keep on growing. he hasn't had a major growth spurt or anything, but slow and steady the last year or two. maybe with some luck he'll be 6ft tall next year!

YIKES. did i just say that?!

pascale and i knew it was going to be a nice cool, cloudy day today (predicted nothing higher than 70 before noon)

so we decided to head back over to carbon canyon/chino hills state park for a long, trail run.

i printed out a map from mapmyrun that showed mile markers for a 15mi run.

happy and enjoying ourselves...

we are on the South Ridge

power lines! it sounded ominous running underneath them...they were quite loud.

kind of pretty, don't you think?

we missed a turn somewhere around where those pictures above were taken (which was around mile 7 or 8, i think)
we ended up running to the end of the South Ridge trail, and exited by Rolling M Ranch.
we turned around and got onto Telegraph Canyon Trail instead, and headed back.

wasn't until we reached Four Corners, where there was a biker that we talked to. there was also this kiosk/sign behind us, a couple of benches, and a (surprisingly) clean portapotty. he let us know if we continued on the mail trail, we would exit at carbon canyon in about...SIX miles! (we were already at about 12 miles by then)

[there were a couple of INSANE hillls prior to four corners. so steep that i had trouble walking up it...i was even silently wishing i had some of those hiker poled i've seen people use.]
