11-10-2013

 derek and i had brunch at rick baylesss' red o restaurant in los angeles on melrose

 the food was amazing.
we started with guacamole and chips, and although the guac was different that the rick bayless recipe for guac that we follow at home (! -- it was sans tomatoes here, and super-duper creamy and deliscious) we loved it.
 i ordered huevos motulenos, which had fried plantains, egss, ham, peas, a tostada on the bottom, amond other stuff...
it was very, very good.
 derek had something that had carnitas in it...oops!  don't recall the name.  gotta look it up.  =p
 the ceiling was glass and had retractable curtains (?)  it was pretty cool.
then these asymmetrical chandelier/lights.
derek ordered flan for dessert (there were 3 kinds) while i had the tres leches cake.  again, omg.  it was amazing!
 back at home....
dashiell and i needed to work on his penny timeline
it came out looking pretty good, i think!
 then mom came out and pointed out his hair to me.  uh-oh.  he cut it himself.  at school last week, apparently.  why?  because it was bothering him.  =/
guess he needs a haircut.
gotta get one for him this week, i guess.
i tried to fix it as best as i could...
 mom and i went out to sushi world (thank you groupon, again!)
we tried the atlantic black dragon (below) this time which was good - had salmon in and out

 then we tried the snowman roll (left) which had shrimp tempura in it i think, with the rice paper, and crab
the other one is the spider roll, which we've had many times (soft shell crab)
 then we also tried this moscato we picked up from costco.
where have you been, bartenura??!!  you are tasty!!!  =p
immer said she's had it many times before.  i hadn't noticed it at costco till now...
we'll be seeing you again!  lol
