took matthew out with me to the roadrunner store in costa mesa --
i needed to return a pair of trail shoes that i purchased online, and HATED because the fit was terrible. and i wanted him to get the 'shoe dog' experience, where they analyze your foot, how you run, etc. to get him some "real" shoes. he's just at a sie 10.5 now, with wide feet (2E) and high arches (like his mommy).
when we ran the chinatown firecracker race last month, he complained of his feet hurting a lot. so i figured it probably was due to a combination of
1) not having the right running shoe
2) having high arches like me - so we also got him some custom orthotics, like mine
3) too small a shoe - but i wasn't positive of this
his shoe isn't pictured, but he got a pair of brooks as well.
below, are the brooks cascadias that i got. they are actually trail shoes. they are sooo comfy and cute! will have to try them out. getting ready for the great race of agoura in a couple weekends...a mostly trail run. =/ gasp.
apparently i've been told to run in neutral plus, and the mizuno wave creations that i have been running in for the last 5 years are actually designed for bigger/heavier people, or ones who want much more cushioning than normal. it's been good to me, but i am eager to try out a new shoe.
so i have the name of a regular brooks road shoe that i tried on that felt super-good on my feet for the next time there's a sale online...
also took the boys in for a haircut. finally.
they were sooo good while there, it was awesome!
i was also able to convince dashiell to get his hair short in the back like brenny's
he said, "i don't mind, however short in the back is OK, mama"
but he wanted the top longer than brenny's -- he was adamant about that.
it's actually pretty short now (thankfully, his sweeping of the hair aside has been getting out of control!)
after this we actually headed out to target to get them some new shoes too.
brenny's now a 13, which means not a great selection of the cute-sy kids shoes anymore...
he originally wasn't interested in the shoes with laces, but dashiell liked them...because i pointed out to him that the box said they were "running shoes"! =D when he heard that, he said he had to have them. WOW!
then brenny was OK with it too, plus he heard that his would be running shoes as well. he lamented that he didn't know how to tie them, but i told him i would teach him, which made him feel better.
