so we ended up at la mirada regional park. we've been to la mirada hs, which is literally across the street, several times previously for matt's football games (the field with artificial turf).
the park is quite impressive -- very large, hilly, full of trees, and a big lake just beyond the playground.
la mirada regional park
- location: 4.5 stars (a little drive, but still quite close. well-worth it, for what the park is like)
- fun-factor: 5 stars
this is, BY FAR, the best park we've been two in the two weeks we've been park-hopping =p
(see comments below)
upon walking up to the playground area, our first thoughts were:
-wow, it's HUGE
-cool coverings on the top, like the playgrounds in vegas
-LOTS of trees surrounding the playground, providing plenty of shade
-wow, look at the lake just below the playground!
it also had a frisbee golf course, which apparently is very popular. there were MANY people playing the course.
a balance beam...
an interesting climber...
view of the entire playground area, seen from the east-side
on the west-end of the playground, was a sandbox. there were already 3 kids there playing when we got there, and dashiell and brennan shared their sand toys with them.
"it's not fun starting all over again. i was making a drop ship!" (and the other little boy playing was digging a hole in it, apparently)

he was pouting. a lot.
so while dashiell was cooling down, i went with brennan, who started playing around the trees behind where we sat down.

here he is, dashing between trees...
...hiding behind trees...
...posing for me in the tree...
he wanted to "go touch the yellow" thing a little ways away, which i let him do. then he ran all the way back to me. =)
there were also some duckies (wandering away from the lake, i'll assume) behind our bench
here's a collage of brennan...i couldn't resist taking continuous shots of him running back to me from "the yellow". he was so cute!
