12-26-2013

pascale and i decided to head back to more familiar grounds, and went to carbon canyon.
we planned on running 18+ miles today, but it was soooo windy!  at mile 7, we decided to turn down the bovinian delight trail and head into four corners (which would have been mile 12 if we continued ahead).  once we got there, we decided since we were cutting the run short, we would check out a new trail.  we headed uphill to north ridge and found some rocks stacked in piles as well as a tower that seemed to be at the highest point of our run.
it was a much nicer view than what the remaining 6 miles normally would have been (which has the last 3-4 miles pretty FLAT).  north ridge was not like telegraph canyon trail at all!  lots and lots of hilly parts.  we ended up logging 2140 total feet in elevation gain over 15 miles.

to put it into perspective...
turnbull was 1296ft the other day)
NOT running up to north ridge would have been 1350ft elevation gain
our previous 20mi run through here was 2338ft elevation gain

so even though we ran 5 miles less than intended, we were only short 200ft in elevation gain.  yikes!  no wonder it was so tough to run.

although we grumbled a lot during the run, i'm pretty sure we will do it again.  =D
