07-27-2013

back to santa monica for a run with lily today.
i really worked at putting in more miles this week because we're leaving on the cruise.
so, here's the breakdown from this past week:
sunday 7/21: 15.08 hilly miles with lily and pascale in santa monica
monday 7/22: 3 flat miles with the CHS XC team
tuesday 7/23: 18.2 relatively flat miles with pascale down the riverbed, liberty park side
wednesday 7/24: 5 relatively flat miles with andrew in cerritos
thursday 7/25: day off!
friday 7/26: 14 relatively flat miles with pascale down the riverbed, cerritos regional park side
saturday 7/27: 18.02 hilly miles with lily in santa monica through the rustic canyon trail

total: a little over 73 miles
i have NEVER, ever, EVER run this much in one week in my entire life.  yesterday was really hard.  i didn't feel 'good' until after the first 7 miles...legs were not as rested as i had hoped for with one day off.
today was tough, because it was the second day in a row of higher mileage.  the first half (and then some of today's run was UPhill.  legs were definitely fatigued.  last 3 miles were better since it was moderately DOWNhill and flat for most of it.  finished strong, at least.
an ice bath when i got home has really helped.  thank goodness! why do i forget about them sometimes??  probably because it's so cold to do.  =p

watching hoodwinked, too! one last time before i return it to the library ;)
some 'sunny' coasters i made for mer using some leftover yarn i had lying around.

07-25-2013

i was a bit worried about the still-cool weather in carlsbad, so i opted to try out splash! la mirada with allison and her boys today.
luckily for me, she had some passes that she was willing to let us use!

so here we are for the first time.
sadly for brenny, anyone under 48" cannot ride the big slides AND have to wear life vests everywhere.
bren didn't understand why (even though i said it was "the rules") and kept telling me, "but i'm not afraid, momma!"
maybe next year...
or let's just stick to legoland! =D
eventually he felt like he could venture out wearing the vest...

on our way to carl's jr for our lunch break!

 whew!
we ended our day there at 4pm.  what a fun-filled, full day with the marcrofts!

a trip to the discovery science center (aka 'the cube')!

07-21-2013

another late afternoon/evening run with lily.
this time pascale joined us for the first time...it was a little tough, but she managed!
we went by the park/trail area with the cool trees, and tried to take some faux action shots.
look!  i'm so fast, i'm a blur!  hahahaa
we ran a total of 15.08mi in 2:58.  not bad for long, hilly miles.

07-20-2013

since the boys were so good at legoland, i got them these costumes.
brenny really wanted the 'chain ball', which wasn't a chima costume.  i tried hard to make sure the knew that...so this was part of the kingdoms set.  the cape thingy he's wearing is part of something AE gave him for his birthday.  it totally works!
i'm going to make these work for halloween costumes this year...
dashiell wanted to be laval, from chima.  the other option was cragger, which brenny kind of wanted, but he wanted the 'chain ball'

we headed off to the park to feed the duckies and play a bit...

then they couldn't wait to play with their costumes on

07-19-2013

yet another fun-filled day for us at legoland.
the one time i don't check the weather...it turns out to be cloudy ALL day, and i'd guess about 71 degrees the entire time.  the sun never really shone, but it make a good effort to peek through at times.
we spent only noon-2pm at the water park, because it was just too cool.

we rode the dragon twice in a row, because the lines were so short!
dashiell was hesitant at first, but then enjoyed it a lot.  first time we were in the first car, second time in the last car!
then we headed up to splash battle (which they hadn't ridden in a long while)
they went on 3 times in a row and were drenched!  good thing they already had their suits on, and they allowed me to remove their t-shirts!

some lego books i might consider getting at some point...
these looked like they had some really good ones inside
 dashiell made something...
and they allowed him to put it on the shelf with the other creations!!
can you tell he was so happy about that??
after the water park, we went to the outside water playground, too!
then we headed to the hideaways (another playground area) because the lines for rides were now way too long.
we ended the day by getting some stuff at the big shop, and then headed to dinner at TGIF.
brenny fell asleep about 15 min in, while dashiell (surprisingly?) stayed up and watched the scooby doo cartoon i borrowed from the library all the way home.
i guess not spending 5+ hours in the water park means he's not wiped out.
